Settings holds everything that isn't tied to a project: your account, privacy choices, notifications, organization administration, billing and usage, and developer access.
Reaching Settings
Click the gear icon in the top bar to open the Settings menu. It links to Account, Notifications, API Keys and Billing, and View all settings opens the Settings overview, a grid of summary cards. Inside Settings, the left-hand menu has four groups:
| Group | Pages |
|---|---|
| Personal | Account, Data & privacy, Notifications |
| Organization (only inside an organization) | Members, Org settings, Org usage, Learning |
| Billing & usage | Billing, My usage |
| Developer | API keys, MCP clients |
What you can see or change in an organization depends on your role. See Team Management.
Account
Settings → Account is personal to you and open to every signed-in user. It has four cards:
- Profile & Security: your profile, password, two-factor authentication and active sessions
- Preferences: Notification Digest sends a summary of your unread activity. Choose Daily, Weekly (Mondays) or None, then click Save preferences
- Export Your Data: Export My Data downloads a JSON copy of your profile, projects, data sources, API key names, usage, automation configurations and your own private Briefing drafts. Credentials and key hashes are left out
- Delete Account Data: permanently deletes your Cesteral data once you type DELETE MY ACCOUNT. Your sign-in account is separate and has to be deleted from your account settings
Notifications
Settings → Notifications controls what Cesteral sends you.
- Notification Categories: Governance, Operations, Insights and System each have In-App, Email and Slack switches. They are saved for the workspace you're in
- Slack Integration: Install Slack App connects a Slack workspace. You can then pick a channel for each kind of notification and switch each route on or off. Link my Slack account lets you approve requests from Slack; without it you still receive requests there but approve them in Cesteral. Disconnect Slack removes the connection. In an organization, installing, routing and disconnecting need the editor role or above
Data & privacy
Settings → Data & privacy covers agreements, consent and retention.
- Data processing agreement (DPA): read the agreement and accept it. Accepting enables data persistence, and you're asked to accept again when a new version is published. In an organization, accepting is restricted; if it is refused, ask your workspace owner
- Cookie & Consent Preferences: switches for analytics cookies, marketing cookies and marketing emails (essential cookies are always on), plus the versions of the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service you accepted. These are personal to you
- Data Persistence: appears once the DPA is accepted. Enable data persistence keeps automation execution data for historical viewing, and Retention Period offers 7, 14, 30, 60 or 90 days. Until then, a Temporary Mode card says run data isn't saved
- Policy Decision Retention: how long the audit trail of governed decisions is kept. Only the workspace owner can change it or place a legal hold, which stops deletion until released. Everyone else sees the current policy. See Audit Log for the windows and exceptions
Organization
These pages appear only inside an organization. In a personal workspace they show No Organization.
- Members: everyone sees the member list and roles. Admins and owners invite people and change roles; see Team Management
- Org settings: admins and owners only. It shows the organization's subdomain (or Set Up Subdomain) and its profile and settings
- Org usage: admins and owners only. Pick a period, then read total events, API calls, data queries and storage, the top projects and users by activity, and a daily trend. Export CSV and Export JSON download the data
- Learning: admins and owners only. It covers the last 30 days: conversations, messages, feedback, active days, top tools, skill activations, automation activity and the assistant's identity profile
Billing
Settings → Billing shows your subscription. In an organization, admins and owners can view it; only the owner can start a trial, upgrade or manage the subscription. Other roles see an Insufficient permissions error.
The Current Plan card shows the plan name, a badge (Free, Trial, Active or Cancelling) and the renewal, trial-end or access-until date. Its buttons depend on your state:
| Your plan | Button |
|---|---|
| Free | Start 30-day Pro trial, if you're eligible, and Upgrade to Professional, which opens a checkout page |
| Trial | Upgrade to paid |
| Paid | Manage Subscription, which opens the billing portal |
You're eligible for the 30-day trial when you're on the Free plan and have never had a Professional subscription; no credit card is needed. A Payment Past Due alert appears when your last payment failed. Current Usage shows the meters for the billing period, and Payment History (off the Free plan) lists invoices with a download link and Load more.
Usage
Settings → My usage shows usage for the workspace you're in, to any member. It has a Current Plan card, Current Monthly Usage and a Credit Usage chart.
Current Monthly Usage has one bar each for API Calls, AI Tokens, Storage, Census Queries and Geocode Calls. A bar reads used over limit (or Unlimited) and the percentage used, and changes colour at 80% and again at 100%. A Quota Warning or Quota Exceeded alert appears above the cards when you near or pass a limit.
Metered work such as chat turns and MCP tool calls draws on a credit allowance for the billing period, set by your plan. Credits show up in three places:
- The Credit Usage chart: credits consumed over the last 30 days, with a total
- A small meter next to the title of many pages once you've used 80% of your credits, reading "N / M credits", then "Credits exhausted", with an Upgrade link. Plans with no credit limit show no meter
- A banner in chat when you've used them all, with the date they reset
API keys and MCP clients
Settings → API keys lists the keys of the workspace you're in: organization keys inside an organization, personal keys otherwise. It counts Active, Revoked and Expired keys, and each key shows its prefix, scopes, dates and rate limit. Create API Key shows the full key once; Revoke disables a key. In an organization, the list and the button are shown only to members allowed to manage settings; others see Admin access required. Settings → MCP clients gives step-by-step setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or any MCP client. The full walkthrough is Connect an MCP Client.
Connected applications
/settings/connected-apps lists the MCP clients you authorized through the OAuth consent screen. The consent screen links to it, but the Settings menu doesn't. It is personal: it lists your grants across every organization.
Each card shows the client, a Personal or Organization badge, when you authorized it, how many sessions are active and the access it holds. Revoke takes effect immediately: the client's tokens stop working and any authorization it hasn't used is cancelled, so it must ask for your approval again. Any user can revoke their own grants.
Platform and channel connections are not in Settings. The old Settings connection pages redirect to Integrations in the workspace sidebar, under the Workspace group; see Connections.
Plans and feature access
Some features depend on your plan. Where you don't have access, the page shows an upgrade card instead of the feature, and its button opens the billing portal. To check your plan, read the Current Plan card on Billing or My usage.
| Where | Without access |
|---|---|
| Reference docs, under Knowledge | An upgrade card replaces your knowledge bases |
| Members | Admins see an upgrade card in place of the invite form, the Invitations tab is hidden and the member list can't be edited |
| Model picker in an automation's AI steps | Premium models are shown disabled with a plan label, unless you attach your own API key |
