Projects

How projects organize a workspace, how to create and switch them, and which pages follow the active project

Last updated 11 Oct 2026Get Started · article 5 of 6

A project is a container inside a workspace. Your campaigns, automations, notes, experiments and many of your policies belong to one project, so work for different clients or brands stays apart. Every workspace, personal or organization, has its own projects, and everyone in an organization shares the organization's projects.

At any moment one project is the active project. Most pages show only that project's records.

The project switcher

The project switcher is at the top of the workspace sidebar. It shows the active project's name and, under it, its description. With the sidebar collapsed it is a folder icon.

Open it to see every project in the workspace. The current one has a check mark, and the project Cesteral created for you is marked Default. Click a project to make it active. Cesteral remembers your choice in your browser, separately for each workspace.

The first time you open a workspace with no projects, Cesteral creates one called Default Project. You can rename it, but you can't delete it.

Create, rename and delete

To create a project:

  1. Open the project switcher and choose New Project
  2. Enter a Project Name (up to 100 characters) and, if you like, a Description (up to 500)
  3. Click Create Project

The new project becomes the active project and Cesteral opens its project page. Your plan sets how many projects a workspace can have. At the limit, creating another is refused with a message asking you to upgrade; see Settings, Billing & Usage.

To rename a project or change its description, hover over it in the switcher, click the pencil (Rename project), edit it in the Edit Project dialog and click Save Changes.

To delete a project, hover over it, click the trash can (Delete project) and confirm with Delete. This cannot be undone. Deleting a project permanently removes the records stored in it, including its automations, notes, agent memory, experiments, audiences, the rules and spend limits that belong to it, and the platform connections made in it.

Creating, renaming and deleting a project are governed actions: they pass through rule evaluation, so a blocking rule can refuse them.

In a personal workspace you can do all of it. See Team Management for roles.

The project page

Open /workspace/[projectId] for one project's home page. Cesteral also opens it right after you create a project. It shows:

  • A Project briefing with a short summary of recent activity and three figures: Conversations, Automation runs and New knowledge. A selector sets the range to the last 7, 14 or 30 days, or this month.
  • A Project Briefing card with an AI-generated summary, trend figures, a health score and recommendations. Until one exists it reads No briefing yet, and you can dismiss it.
  • Ask the agent, a chat panel that works in this project.
  • Recent runs, the project's latest automation runs.

If the project no longer exists or isn't yours, Cesteral returns you to Home with the message Project no longer available.

What the active project changes

Switching project changes what these pages list. A new audience, rule or spend limit is created in the active project.

WhereWhat follows the active project
HomeThe briefing, KPIs and snapshot cover the active project only
Campaigns, Automations, Audiences, Experiments, Media libraryThe records that belong to the project
ChatThe history lists the project's conversations, and the agent reads the project's briefing
Queue, Changes, Action resultsThe project's items. See the exceptions below
PoliciesBlocking rules and Write rules show the rules that reach the project. Spend limits, Execution controls, Naming and Launch QA list the project's own entries
IntegrationsThe connections made in the project
KnowledgeBriefing, Notes and Agent memory for the project
SkillsThe project's custom skills, plus the built-in skills

Rules

A rule belongs to the project that was active when it was created, or to no project. A rule with no project is global and governs every project. Blocking rules and Write rules list the rules that reach the active project: its own and the global ones. When an action doesn't name a project, every rule in the workspace is checked.

Workspace-wide

Some things ignore the active project:

  • Pauses are always workspace-wide. A pause stops matching actions in every project.
  • The Queue lists active pauses and channel connection problems in every project. The Queue and Changes list change sets filed with no project in every project, and the Queue marks them Workspace-wide.
  • Reference docs under Knowledge are shared by all projects in the workspace.
  • The Audit log has its own Filter by project selector (all projects, no project, or one project) and doesn't follow the sidebar. See Audit Log.
  • Settings pages are not tied to a project.

Project memory

Each project has its own project memory, edited on the Briefing tab under Knowledge, in the sidebar's Workspace group. The assistant reads the memory of the project it is working in on every turn, so switch to the right project before you rely on it. The memory is limited to 8,000 characters. See Knowledge for what to put in it.
