Audience Builder Node

Build geographic audience segments from census traits and POI proximity

Last updated 24 Jun 2026

The Audience Builder node is a source node that generates a geographic audience segment by combining demographic traits and points-of-interest (POI) proximity filters. It ignores any upstream input and emits one record per matching geographic area.

When to Use

Use Audience Builder to define a target segment from the ground up — for example, "municipalities with high median income that also have an IKEA within 10 km" — then enrich, filter, or export the resulting areas downstream.

Ports

  • Inputs: none (this is a source node).
  • Output: data — one record per matched area.

Configuration

FieldTypeDescription
countrystringCountry ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code (e.g. "SWE"). Required
levelnumberSingle geographic level (e.g. 1=county, 2=municipality, 3=DeSO)
levelsnumber[]Multiple geographic levels (alternative to level)
parentAreastringOptional: restrict candidate areas to descendants of this area code
traitsarrayTrait conditions — census traits and/or POI traits (at least one required)
groupsarrayOptional trait groups, each combining a subset of traits with AND/OR
rootOperatorAND | ORHow to combine ungrouped traits and group results (default: AND)

A census trait filters areas by a census variable, evaluated as a z-score, decile, or raw value (operators include >, >=, <, <=, =, !=, between, in).

A POI trait filters areas by proximity to points of interest, either by category (HERE category IDs) or chain (e.g. "IKEA"), using a within (radius) or density (minimum count) proximity mode.

Output

Each output record represents a matching area:

FieldDescription
area_codeAdministrative boundary identifier (primary join key)
area_nameArea display name
area_typeArea type (e.g. municipality, county)
country_isoCountry ISO code
level_idHierarchy level of the area
_audience_matchedAlways true for emitted rows

Notes

  • area_code is the canonical join key, so the output is well suited to a downstream Group node that intersects or unions audiences by area.
  • POI traits fetch coordinates from the HERE Places API and then run a PostGIS proximity query; a per-execution POI fetch limit applies.
  • Population KPIs (matched area count and total population) are computed from census_indices for the matched areas.
  • Currently loaded census coverage: Sweden (SWE), with default POI search centers for SWE/NOR/DNK/FIN.
