Approval Gate Node

Pause automation execution and wait for explicit human approval before continuing

Last updated 8 Oct 2026

The Approval Gate node pauses an automation run and creates an approval request for a human reviewer. The run resumes only when someone approves or rejects it (or the configured timeout fires).

When to Use

Use Approval Gate before irreversible or high-impact actions — sending mass emails, publishing to ad platforms, or pushing enriched data to a CRM — when you want a human to review the automation state before proceeding.

Ports

The node has two outputs:

  • approved — input records are routed here when the request is approved.
  • rejected — input records are routed here when the request is rejected.

Configuration

FieldTypeDescription
messagestringMessage shown to the approver. Required
approvers.methodin-app | emailHow the approver is notified (default: in-app)
approvers.emailsstring[]Email addresses to notify (required when method is email)
previewFieldsstring[]Optional subset of fields to show in the data preview. If omitted, all fields are shown
timeout.durationstringDuration string (e.g. "24h", "7d") the gate waits before timing out (default: "24h")
timeout.actionfail | auto-approve | auto-rejectWhat happens when the timeout fires (default: fail)

Example

Gate before sending personalized emails:

message: "Review the generated email subjects and approve to proceed with sending."
approvers:
  method: email
  emails: [ops@acme.com]
previewFields: [email, subject_line]
timeout:
  duration: 48h
  action: auto-reject

Notes

  • A data preview snapshot of up to 20 input rows is attached to the approval request (filtered to previewFields when set).
  • If an active pause covers the automation, the gate fails fast instead of queuing an approval request.
  • The approval, the approver, and the response time are recorded for the governance audit trail.
  • For a non-blocking wait on a fixed duration, use Delay instead.
